Feminazery Future

Just a quickie (gosh, a sex synonym - that'll upset all the impotent male rage aimed at this blog recently) but given the number of idiots who have doddered over to our corner of the internet recently to vent their confused spleen at feminism, what do you say we put up a second Personifesto, a Fuckyoufesto if you will, explaining in suitably caustic but nonetheless clear language what feminism is, why it matters, and why we write this blog? Would writers and readers be amenable to this kind of feminism101-type deal?

Or I could just collect the best clangers for a post all of their own, make them feel more at home, the little darlings?

Over and out. x

  1. OHHHH,i LOVE the term FUCKYOUFESTO. I recently have had a little birdy who called me a plethora of names and ignorantly left his spew all over my little blog. I have yet to respond, but I love the term FUCKYOUFESTO, and hope you don't mind me using it!

My vote, since feminism 101 would be preaching to the choir, methinks you posting up their dribble and letting us point and poke would be much more enjoyable. :)))

  2. I'm for open ridicule too. I've been urging a similar thing on Laurie Penny's blog as well - we need to have the hatred and bile brought out into the open and acknowledged, it's no good complaining about something (cyber bullying & silencing of female voices) we know exists but we can't point to publically available examples of.

The real trolls are not only profoundly uninterested in what feminism is, knowing anything about it would fundamentally undermine their ability to treat feminists as obscene and evil, which is their stock in trade. For the well meaning but genuinely confused, you could perhaps include some links to this, this, and this.

  3. We could do a fuckyoufesto and a best of the comments. I'll prod the others in our super-sekrit femi-bunker.

On the other hand, I don't want to let the comments become a massive free-for all, that's why they're moderated. That and the spammers.

  4. how was our rage impotent? Seems like you're just using that word to make me feel bad about my dick or something, because it appears we took the debate to a wider audience (we're on around 7000 unique views a day, what are you on?) and found a load of people who agreed that you'd gone a bit far with calling me a 'rape apologist' for writing about how to not get crazy mad when trying to get with people. Doesn't sound that impotent to me.

you guys didn't do yourselves any favours with that kind of reactionary nonsense, you just looked like the daily mail in reverse, which (like i said in a previous comment that you then didn't approve because you're apparently offended by expletives) is just as bad actually being the daily mail.

pity you couldn't get involved in the debate on our site. i suppose it's just a lot easier to preach to the converted though, right?

  5. The reason, Robert, we have not graced your site with our presence is that it is widely accepted wisdom that one should never argue with fools, lest being mistaken for one yourself. And someone who purports to be a writer and yet appears unable to locate their shift key is a fool of some magnitude.

I don't know how many unique views our site has because we're not so self-involved as to have set up a counter.

Maybe you should channel all this miosgynistic enegry into something creative and go back and write something on your own page. But I guess that's not as easy as preaching to the uninterested.

  6. Robert or whoever you are, for the love of god (and quite separate from this matter, irritating as I find your participation in it) please work on your literacy skills before attempting to pontificate! It doesn't surprise me that you can't apparently think further than your cock, but "impotent" does actually have other definitions and connotations. Christ.

    *Linguistic rage over and out.*

  7. Who dresses women? How many rapes involve an insurmountable force? How many laws are in place to ensure the equal rights of women?

Responsibility is earned by the actions of the individual that stands up for themselves and not a given in a world where our fortune is a direct consequence of our own actions.

So choose what you wear, decide what you consume and who touches your naked body, use the law to get what you want, stop hating and blaming men for the challenges you face in life.

Or walk around the city streets at night half naked and pissed having accepted the minimum pay your boss thinks they can get away with paying you and when you said no to some guy then give in and let him do his business because you think its going to be easier than a swift kick in the bollox after a night drinking whatever is put under your nose.

    You choose.

  8. Stern report - nearly 60% of rape cases that come to trial end up in a guilty verdict, well, well , well. How many alleged rape victims present with evidence that they decided it was right to fight physically against their alleged attacker rather than be raped? I guarantee you this if I was trying to persuade a woman to sleep with me who had given me mixed messages and she started to struggle, right there the efforts of persuasion would end, thankfully I have never had that experience however I'm quite sure the vast majority of blokes would get the message way before a fist fight over a fuck. The fact that rapists exist and some women have said no to me initially has not stopped me continue to ask for it.

  9. Or have I got it completely wrong and its terribly difficult being a woman wondering what messages my choice of clothing gives out, managing to provide and control what I consume, when people refuse to listen to the words I say and continue to make sexual advances back my words up with actions and finaly negotiate as we all have to do the contract I want for the work I do or find a better job?

  10. People fit into a few categories, those that think the world happens to them and those that believe they have choices and exercise their rights, those that look back in anger instead of hoping for a better future.

All of these discussions and arguments are not particularly male or female issue they are issues we all face in one way or another so put up or shut up.

  11. So feminists are clearly afraid of the facts of life? I don't care what turns you on or off but I do care about the truth and you guys clearly seek solace in being victims, not just victims of men but life itself. Although if the jeans fit then I guess men will carry the cost of your troubles.

There is nothing stopping any of you having happy, productive and safe lives except your determined efforts to blame every pain a woman feels on man, well I’m not sorry but regardless of your sexuality or thoughts but you just need to get a grip and grow up.

  12. margret thatcher was prime minister nearly 30yrs ago, America has a black president so in my mind the only truly scary group of people that exist today are black feminists who continue to harp on about how difficult thier life is

  13. err, mike, you come across as a bit of an idiot.
i do not see myself as a victim thank you very much. but i recognise that we live in a sexist society that doesn't take violence against women seriously and in a culture that denigrates women, thereby creating an environment where violence isn't taken seriously. and women get raped whatever they're wearing or drinking.
perhaps climb down from your male privilege for a bit and open your eyes.

  14. a sexist, racist, populist and unfair society but we whoever we are fit into just a few categories and a victim status is an appropriate description for some.

btw i don't feel particularly privileged in any way other than having the opportunity to give the dice another roll, for what it's worth.

  15. I'm torn. Mostly I just want all the terrible rape justification-comments to end, eh? But the prospect of fun-poking is quite tempting.

  16. Mike - you are privileged in that you are male; you do not *feel* privilege because you are unaware of the advantages that come by being a man (that in itself is a privilege). I would take a look at this: http://www.amptoons.com/blog/the-male-privilege-checklist/ - a pretty comprehensive look at male privilege in american/european countries.

We should not have to put up with sexism, or any other discrimination on the basis of sex, gender, sexuality, class, race, ethnicity, age, weight, health and level of able-bodiedness. Nor should we shut up, because that is is not changing the system. Not shutting up doesn't mean we see ourselves as victims, more that we see the need for change and wish to do something about it.

  17. One of the things I like best about this blog is not having to scroll through reams of anti-feminist bile - and feminists answering it - to get to the interesting comments. There are plenty of other arenas in which anti-feminists can express their feelings and feminists can attempt to educate them. I vote that Feminazery stays a place where feminists can have intelligent discussions with one another. There is a place in the world for feminist-only spaces; we are not duty-bound to engage with every fool who wanders by, just because they goad us to do so.

  18. I fail to see where I or anyone for that matter has attempted to justify rape. My opinions seem less anti-feminist and more anti-hate although ‘isms and hate do seem to have a lot in common or at least go hand in hand. Shutting up was not an order but a suggested choice put against another related behaviour, that of action. You may also have noticed that I too fail to see much point into dragging myself into attempts to attack me personally or in fact attack others especially if that attack is baseless and completely off topic.

  19. Men are apt to denigerate women by dressing it up as humour so maybe we need to start using the same weapon against them.

This 'Mike' seems to have a real chip on his shoulder - especially as he thinks women 'like' being victims of anyone. These days women do not think of themselves as victims they merely seek to highlight wrongs. But that of course is treated as whinging and whining.

I'm all in favoour of all the suggestions you make in the post.

  20. I also fail to see where I use the term victim in conjunction with anyone specific or the term women.

  22. Mike - "you guys clearly seek solace in being victims" - as this blog is written and read by (mostly) women, it is not a huge step to read your comment as saying that we women see ourselves as victims.

And please, for the sake of coherency, please try to keep multiple comments on the same topic to a minimum - perhaps leave off hitting "post comment" for twenty minutes so you can add anything you think of afterwards; you're making less sense when you post three sentences in separate comments.

Fizzwhizz - Mike is a regular-ish commentator. We're still discussing our comments moderation but the consensus seems to be so far that posting by non-feminists is alright as long as it remains respectful.

  24. Wow... I've not posted or looked on here for ages (apologies for lack of posts I will try to build up some rage) but Mike's comments are astonishing. You're not a rape apologist, yet a woman will say no to you and unless she fights you you'd keep trying anyway??
You're not a rape apologist, and yet a woman deserves all she gets if she wears revealing clothes or gets drunk?
Let me tell you, "Mike": a real man would never say this. I know many of them and am happy to say I have been in situations where quite frankly from your comments you would have at least tried it on, and the men I was with did no such thing. You scare me.

Trolling, spamming, racism, sexism, fascism and bigotry are not welcome. Anyone engaging gratuitously in any and all of the above may be removed and ridiculed, and not necessarily in that order.
